Fauna Shawl

100% Recycled Polyester Shawl, GRS Certified

LiliRayEpic has produced a limited edition Shawl collection made with 100% Recycled Polyester, GRS Certified. But what is GRS and why we prefer to use GRS as an environmental certificate for this product?

The GRS process began in 2016, and the updated standards were published on July 1, 2017. The GRS is intended to meet the needs of companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products (both finished and intermediate) and to verify responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in their production.

Textile processing results in the often inadequately treated discharge of toxic chemicals into the air and water, as well as hazardous workplace situations.

The objectives of the GRS are to define requirements to ensure accurate content claims and good working conditions, and that harmful environmental and chemical impacts are minimized. This includes companies in ginning, spinning, weaving and knitting, dyeing and printing and stitching in more than 50 countries.

The shared goal of the standards is to increase the use of recycled materials. The GRS includes additional criteria for social and environmental processing requirements and chemical restrictions.

Materials are verified to meet the ISO definition of recycled. Both per-consumer and post-consumer material is accepted.

GRS sites are required to meet strict social and environmental requirements. Chemicals with potential for harm are not permitted to be used on GRS products.

Certification ensures that the identity of the recycled material is maintained: from the recycle to the final product.

A professional, third party certification body audits each stage in the supply chain.

Products that meet all requirements may be labelled with the GRS logo.

The GRS is managed with the input of recycles, suppliers, and brands and retailers from all parts of the globe.

Objectives of GRS

Alignment of recycled definitions across multiple applications.

Verify recycled content in products

Provide consumers (both brands and end consumers) with a tool to make informed decisions

Reduce harmful impact of production to people and the environment.

Provide assurance that products are processed more sustainably.
